French Onion Soup
🧅 Patience Secret
Do not rush the onions! Slow cooking them on low heat for 45-60 minutes is essential to get that deep, sweet, dark caramelization. This is the heart of the soup.
Ingredients
- 4 Large Onions (Thinly sliced)
- 1 L Beef Broth
- 1 cup White Wine or Sherry
- French Baguette, Gruyere Cheese
- Butter, Olive oil, Thyme, Bay leaf
Instructions
- Caramelize Onions: Sauté sliced onions in butter and olive oil on low heat until dark brown.
- Add Wine: Pour in white wine or sherry to deglaze the pan. Simmer for 5 mins.
- Broth & Simmer: Add beef broth, thyme, and bay leaf. Simmer for 30-40 minutes.
- Toast & Cheese: Top soup bowls with toasted baguette slices and a generous amount of Gruyere cheese.
